Rev. David McShane

"Even though I've known about Friendship Village since it was founded, I keep discovering things that impress me about the community," says Rev. David McShane. "It's always been my favorite in the area."

As a resident, Rev. McShane appreciates the expertise and friendliness of the Friendship Village staff as well as the variety of activities and events. "There really is something for everyone here," he explains, "from interesting talks by residents and special guests to trips to the symphony or refreshing walks in the Village Woods."

Rev. McShane is also pleased that Friendship Village is the first area retirement community to offer Garden Homes. "These represent a great opportunity, not just for Friendship Village, but for the whole Kalamazoo area," he says. "No other retirement community in the area offers anything like them."

Joan Wallace

"A busy and happy life" is what Joan Wallace has found at Friendship Village. Although she studied journalism in college, becoming the editor of the community's newsletter is a new and rewarding experience. "It's given me a real connection to other people in the community," Joan explains. "I feel like I'm doing something really worthwhile."

From profiles of new neighbors to reports on the Village Woods, the newsletter keeps everyone up-to-date while providing a forum for residents to express themselves.

"Getting to know the people who live here and hearing about their experiences is another way we're able to expand our horizons at Friendship Village," Joan adds. "Friendship Village really becomes your community," she says. Connecting with others and enjoying a range of intellectual pursuits has provided Joan with the kind of life she wants to live.
